BOTOX® Treatment: Upper Lip
Generally, fine lines and wrinkles around the lips are best treated with dermal fillers such as Collagen, Restylane and Juvederm. “Plumping up” the tissue provides a smoother and more uniform appearance than attempting to use BOTOX® Cosmetic. However, if there are 2-3 deeper wrinkles or creases in the upper lip, it may be possible to address these with BOTOX® injections if the dermal fillers do not give the desired appearance. Whereas BOTOX® treatments are usually placed deep into the muscle, when your physician uses BOTOX® to treat the upper lip, the treatment is quite superficial and with a very small quantity BOTOX® in order to avoid causing the upper lip to droop. The upper lip is extremely sensitive to becoming droopy and thus extreme care must be used.
The treatment of the upper lip with BOTOX® requires careful evaluation by a physician experienced in using BOTOX® injections for this application. Be certain to inquire as to whether the physician you select is familiar and comfortable with BOTOX® Cosmetic use for the upper lip.
